Medium Breed The Medium Group of dogs weigh from 11 to 25 kg. These were initially hunting dogs, herding dogs, Nordic dogs or other working breeds.

Today, they have managed to adapt themselves perfectly to our present way of life. They represent approximately 30% of puppies born in Europe in 2000.

JUNIOR

from 2 to 12 months

Royal Canin Medium Junior Dog Food

Between 2 and 12 months, the medium puppy experiences a phase of intense growth multiplying its weight at birth by up to 40 - 50 times and requires a perfectly balanced diet.

Medium Junior has a high energy input (4288 kcal) to meet the needs of a demanding growth period and contains optimal calcium and phosphorus content to ensure strong bone structure and healthy teeth.

During the growth phase, the puppys digestive system is less well developed than in the adult dog. Medium Junior contains a unique combination of ingredients of vegetable and mineral origin, and a reduced level of starch (below 26%) to guarantee maximum digestive safety.

ADULT

1 to 7 years

Royal Canin Medium Adult Dog Food

From 1 to 7 years old, the medium dog lives its adulthood to the full. To keep it optimally fit throughout this period, its diet must be suited to its living conditions.

Medium Adult contains 12% fat, a perfectly adapted energy level for maintaining the dogs healthy weight, and uses very high quality ingredients perfectly cooked for maximum absorption of nutrients.

To gain as much benefit as possible from their food, it must be both balanced and highly digestible. This is essential to avoid any deficiencies and to considerably reduce the volume of stools - a significant benefit in urban areas. Medium Adult contains a balanced intake of dietary fibres for optimum intestinal transit.

MATURE

from 7 years

Royal Canin Medium Mature Dog Food

A medium dog can live up to 15 years of age however, with ageing, the risks of renal insufficiency increase. Medium Mature has a limited phosphorus content to help the kidney's to function properly. Fructo-oligo-saccharides encourage balanced intestinal flora and help fight against digestive problems.

Cellular oxidation intensifies during ageing and the medium dogs defences weaken. Medium Mature has a high intake of zinc, biotin and a good balance of Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids for a shiny coat and to help the healing process.

Ageing dogs may lose their appetite so a foods palatability must be sufficient to encourage eating. Medium Mature has exceptional palatability due to the use of exclusive natural flavours and selection of very high quality ingredients, to encourage a mature dog's appetite.

MEDIUM BREED INFORMATION

  • THE MEAL ROUTINE
  • Until the age of 6 months, feed your puppy 3 times a day. Then drop to 2 meals a day at regular times. If it refuses a helping, don't force it. Remove it and serve it again at the next meal-time so as not to encourage bad habits (begging, tendency to put on weight etc.)
  • NATURAL INSTINCTS
  • Naturally a pack animal, the dog tries to assert its dominance by being the first to eat at meal-times. Your family is its pack. To avoid it considering itself to be dominant, make it eat after you and take its dish away after the meal. Like wolves, dogs love rolling in rotting substances. This behaviour should not be punished, it is instinctive for dogs.
  • OUTDOOR EXERCISE IS ESSENTIAL
  • To let off steam, a dog needs to exert its energy to keep fit, and to avoid becoming overweight. The medium dog ideally needs a MINIMUM of 3 outings of at least 20 minutes a day and a half-day walk once a week.
  • MAGNESIUM TO HELP REDUCE CRAMP
  • A dog may suffer from cramp after vigorous effort. This may be due to a lack of magnesium. To avoid joint injuries or weakened ligaments, replace its food with a high density energy food that is high in magnesium. Work the dog in gradually before demanding major effort!
  • PAWS AND NAILS
  • After each walk, inspect pads carefully for thorns, stones, etc. In the event of injury, disinfect the wound and apply an antiseptic cream. Also check that the dog does not have any ticks. Remove these if necessary with the help of special tweezers for this purpose. In spite of regular wear, a dog's nails can grow too long. Clip them with special clippers, taking care not to touch the quick. You can also ask your vet to do this.
